In the 1993 film Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum famously says, “Life, uh, finds a way.” As a result, these captivating photographs capture the unexpected scale of things in the physical world and elsewhere that most of us mostly don’t consider. There’s a computer the size of a grain of rice, an animal with lungs nine times the size of a human’s, and a rabbit the size of a dog, for example. How is it possible? To find out, just keep reading!
These jellylike grubs probably turn into beetles and are easily identified by their cream-colored bodies as well as tiny brown heads. If you have a patch of “grass” which never seems to turn green, you’re likely to discover one underground.
Recognized As “The Mountain”
On the once-beloved Game of Thrones, Hafór Jlus Björnsson is the 6-foot-nine, 440-pound beast widely recognized as “The Mountain.” Outside of the Hollywood stage, this expert strongman stands next to his wife, Kelsey Henson. She must be a quarter of his size!
The Gray Whale
The gray whale, which is often seen with barnacles encrusted across its skin, can live up to 80 years. They can weigh up to 90,000 pounds and grow to be 49 feet long if they live that long. When compared to the passengers on the boat, one is clearly larger than the other.
The Robber Crab
The coconut crab is the world’s biggest land-living arthropod, also regarded as the “robber crab” or “palm thief.” It’s mostly found on islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This strange creature can reach a length of one meter and a weight of just under ten pounds. These crabs are heavily hunted because their meat is considered a delicacy and can be easily identified.
These tropic-dwelling creatures, also known as flying foxes or fruit bats, are nearly the size of men but eat fruits, plants, and insects. Surprisingly, these bats depend heavily on vision rather than echolocation.
Flemish Giant Rabbit
What appears to be a steroid-addicted bunny is actually a Flemish Giant Rabbit. The majority weigh around 15 pounds, but they can weigh up to 22 pounds. You might be surprised to learn that this domesticated species is quite docile and loving, making them ideal family pets.
The Ghost Crab is famous for having one claw that is significantly bigger than the other throughout adulthood and a box-like body due to its nocturnal activity hours and pale color when hatched. When they’re young, they’re incredibly adorable.
Sequoia National Park
The tremendous Redwood trees, which are among the world’s oldest living species, can live up to 1,800 years. These magnificent trees are simply massive, reaching a maximum height of 380 feet and a trunk diameter of 30 feet.
The Smallest Computer
The University of Michigan developed the world’s smallest computer in 2018, which could fit on the tip of a grain of rice. IBM appears to have created a machine that is smaller than a grain of salt, even at 0.3 millimeters by 0.3 millimeters.
Anacondas in South America can grow to be 25 feet long and weigh 550 pounds, and they are no laughing matter. If they can out-wrestle a crocodile, you can bet they can out-wrestle any normal person.
The Leatherback Sea Turtle is the world’s largest turtle. Have you ever seen one of these in this size? These turtles do not even have a bony shell for security, even after their name. Front flippers could indeed grow up to 8.9 feet in length in some of the biggest adults.
The Smallest One Yet
We have a mini, primarily land-dwelling tortoise here, unlike the leatherback turtle. They can be as small as commonly available fruit when they are babies. They can continue living until 150 years old, despite their tiny size.
We have no way of knowing if this is a beached Redwood like the one we saw earlier. With that kind of tremendous size and weight, however, the oh-so-powerful ocean current finds it easy to carry this massive tree.
When your friends invite you to join them on their next rock-climbing adventure, you’re absolutely thrilled. Only when you’re right near the mountain and decide to take a break to take in the beautiful landscapes do you realize you’ve made a mistake.
During nomadic times, the Tibetan Mastiff was known for guarding livestock and families as a guardian. This breed’s double-fur coat makes it appear larger than it is, but at a maximum weight of 160 pounds, it’s no joke.
The hippo’s physicality is absolutely remarkable, especially when one considers how tiny a newborn is in comparison to an adult. Males can weigh more than 3,300 pounds in adulthood, while females can weigh over 2,800 pounds. At their lightest birth weight, newborns weigh approximately 55 pounds.
Small And Giant Squids
Small squids and giant squids have vastly different scale sizes. Female stunners can grow up to 60 feet long, while male stunners can grow up to 43 feet long. Even more incredible, the first live photos of a giant squid in its natural habitat were taken in 2004.
There Are Other Larger Ships Now
We’ve all gasped at the Titanic’s size, regardless of wether it was because of James Cameron’s blockbuster film depicting the events or because of its historical significance. What we often overlook is how much the world has grown in size since 1912. When compared to a modern cruise ship, the Titanic appears to be a dinghy.
At 29 years old, “Fat Pat from Ballarat” (Ballarat is the moniker of the wildlife park where he spends his days) is the world’s oldest wombat. He is also the heaviest, weighing in at 88 pounds. Isn’t he a massive baby?
The Largest Heart Belongs To…
The world’s biggest heart, of course, belongs to the world’s biggest creature – the Blue Whale. The blue whale heart is about the size of a small compact sedan and weighs around 400 pounds. The fact that two human beings could hide in its aortas is disturbing.
Claw Of An Eagle
The Common Eagle, despite weighing only 15 pounds as an adult and having a wingspan of more than seven feet, is capable of flying at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour. Then there are its talons, which can reach two inches in length and have a force of up to 1,000 pounds per square inch.
A Massive Slug
We’re not sure what to think of this. With oddly shaped ears and a protective shell, this giant slug resembles a tiny rabbit. Have you tried slug stew instead of rabbit stew?
The Big And Small Truck
The typical semi-truck can be seen on the right. New, they can cost up to $200,000 and weigh up to 34,000 pounds. A Caterpillar mining truck can be seen on the left. $3.4 million for a brand new home. It can, however, pull up to 75,000 pounds.
The Power Of Nature
Look at how majestic and powerful this waterfall looks. It is huge and extremely grand. It is quite some sight to watch this yellow coat-wearer ponder what goes beyond this wonderful waterfall. The utter size of this magnificent piece of nature makes her look miniscule in comparison.
An Enormous Ship
A person can easily underestimate the size of a particular ship, due to the amount of the boat’s structure that resides underwater when it is sailing. This image of a ship docked shows just how large it is. When placed next to a human, the scale becomes more apparent.
Bears are magnificent creatures but who knew their tongues were this long? The black bear pictured here doesn’t seem to worry about onlookers, he can do whatever he wants and nobody can say otherwise.
